Memories of Gaming Past 009: Final Fantasy IX

Save my favorite game for last in my Memories of gaming past for the PS1. Considering this was released almost right at the end of the 5th generation, (Dreamcast was released in ’99, this game in 2000), it was an enjoyable and long JRPG. Sometime soon, I’m going to replay this. Build up my Black Mage some more….

Next up: Random games in between the 5th and 6th Generations. Returning to the Stage of History, a Hat can be deadly, and a pink blob can lift. (Hints for the future)

Final Fantasy IX(PS1/PSN, 2000)

Joppy’s Favorites pt 1: Picking my favorites: Idolm@ster

I decided in the middle of getting the blog back up, I’m going to be discussing my favorite characters in anime today, and the first series I’m going to pick is one I didn’t really dabble into until I nabbed most of the Blurays is the OG Idolm@ster series.

The first Major Idol anime/games/music which started way back in 2005(!!), I kind of ignored the series for a while. Not until Cinderella Girls and Love Live did I start to get into the series. And while most reasoning of favorites would naturally point toward Chihaya, my favorite seems to be pointed to another…

Yep, my favorite seems to be Ritsuko Akizuki, the serious Idol/Producer type. Out of all the arcs in the one Idolm@ster console game I do have (One for All), I played through her section of the game.

Memories of Gaming Past 008: Grandia

Besides the Lunar series, Game Arts also worked on the Grandia series. The first game stands out in my mind as a true adventure RPG in the PS1 era. Exploring places is what this game does well. This is a game that also is on PSN, so you don’t have to look high and low for the discs. The dub might not be the greatest, but it is serviceable. (Grandia, PS1/PSN)

Next up: My favorite game for the PS1(and one of the last of the 5th generation.

20+ years of Anime Part 4: Maison Ikkoku

20 Years of Anime Part V: Maison Ikkoku (1986)

In the middle of my stint overseas, I found this Rumiko Takahashi series from way back in the day…

Godai(our main lead) tried, but failed his entrance exams for college. It didn’t help that the other tenents at the apartment complex love to pester him and always host parties in his room. What keeps him from leaving was the appearance of the new apartment manager,Kyoko Otanashi. Naturally he falls for her instantly. Unfortunatly, It’s not gonna be easy. Romantic rivals, misunderstandings draw the show out to 96 episodes.

If you can find the show(Sadly, this show is REAL Out of print), this is one of the Rare Rumiko Takahashi shows that has a beginning, middle, and an end. This show brought out my love for the “Apartment Ensamble Romcom” shows, which you will see later on this list.

The Reboot has begun!

The past two days have seen life come back to my blog. I am doing my series of Gaming and Anime past, and adding some things, leading up to my revamp of my favorite characters list of all time. Since 2015, It stayed the same. So I need to add and subtract characters to make it more up-to-date. Look foward to that. However, as the 7.0 refresh happened, Homura Akemi magically vanished, and a new one, totally different from what came before, appeared. So, who is she?

As I promised on my “Hiatus” post 2 weeks ago, I have just changed my blog a bit. Instead of showcasing Homura Akemi, this time I am introducing my “Mascot” of my blog. Named Momoko Koizumi, she was born while playing Final Fantasy XIV…

At first as I was playing, I ended up using a Twintail-based hairstyle. However, once she turned Lvl 20, I felt it neccessary to change her hairstyle. Now, she looks a lot more mature than what she was.

I think eventually I will get some art commissioned for her, but in the mean time, I used a character creator to make the image you see on top. You may see other places she’ll pop up.

As to other things that may be posted, I know there is a Nintendo Direct going to happen at 5pm CDT tomorrow, so I may post something on that. Depends on what is shown in there.

Memories of Gaming Past 007-Lunar Star Story Complete

One of the series I am bringing back in the reboot is the Memories of Gaming Past. This series I  continued for a while unlike the other one which I had only 2 done before I got sidetracked back in 2015. Sooooo……

The next game on the list is the first game in the Lunar Franchise for the PS1, Lunar Silver Star Story Complete. What I remember of this game was the fact that it was harder than some of the other PS1 RPGs I was playing at the time, and it had cutscenes nicely animated by Studio Gonzo (!) for it’s time. And 30 minutes in the game, you get… Luna’s Boat Song. Very fond memories of playing this game and its sequel. Coming next: An adventurer’s quest to see the end of the world, and my favorite game in the PS1 era. (2 different games as the hint as to whats to come)
(Lunar Silver Story, 1999, PS1)

20+ years of Anime pt 3: Kimagure Orange Road

To Continue with the Reboot, I will be posting more of these recollections of Anime I watched the past 20+ years.  This and the Memories of Gaming Past posts will be continued…

20 years of Anime part 4: Kimagure Orange Road (Originally Aired in 1987)

As I left for overseas, it might have looked like my fandom would have died. However, after my shift was over, I did flip through some channels on my tv, picking up some Italian Channels. One of the channels shown anime on primetime (5 to 6 pm). Naturally, I tuned in, especially since the very first thing I saw was the end of the original Dragonball Series. Two weeks later, in it’s place, was another Shonen Jump title by the name of Kimagure Orange Road. This story was basically a love triangle between the main character, and the two females pictured above. It went on for 48 episodes, being stuck in the love triangle, as the main character did not want to hurt either of them. A subplot had the MC having ESP and other weird powers, but the main focus of the story was about these three.

The first movie, “I want to return to that day”, made the main character have to finally choose between the two, and it was very bittersweet. It is one of a few anime on MyAnimeList that I gave a 10 out of 10. To me, it was that good. The ending ballad, by Kanako Wada, is on my playlist.

Unfortunately, this show is Out of Print, so watching this legally can be a pain. Luckilly I got the series dirt cheap(Mostly on VHS, but I got the important parts(Like the Movie) on DVD so I can watch it. Note: I wrote this in 2015.(!) Since then, Discotek was nice enough to licence the series, the OVAs, and the Movie.

Note: Favorite Character in this series: Madoka Ayukawa(The one on the Left).
